Storyboard: SEÝTAN

Image
We aim to create an engaging opening for our film, "SEÝTAN," that immerses the audience in a gripping narrative filled with fear and suspense. Our goal is to keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the final scene, with a storyline that is easy to follow. We will primarily use wide and static shots. Wide shots will highlight the eerie landscapes, enhancing the unsettling mood, while static shots will focus on our main characters, capturing their expressions to amplify the tension. The film will feature a dark and cool colour palette, including deep blues and muted greys, to create a chilling atmosphere that captivates the audience. Here’s our storyboard, outlining the planned scenes and visual elements that will bring our vision to life:

A very talented editor!!

Image
MICHEAL KAHN Michael Kahn is a highly acclaimed film editor, best known for his long-standing collaboration with director Steven Spielberg. He values the input of the director and works together to achieve their vision Kahn is known for editing based on feeling rather than strict knowledge. He has a keen sense of pacing, knowing when to hold on a shot to let a moment breathe and when to tighten the cuts to build tension. He possess a deep understanding of editing techniques and how to use them to enhance storytelling. Kahn sees the editor's role as putting the film together, telling the story, and giving it clarity. Some of his famous works include: Jurassic Park (1993) Saving Private Ryan (1998) The Adventures of Tintin (2011) Bridge of Spies (2015)

Moodboard!!

Image
Here’s the mood board for our film opening. It conveys dark and creepy vibes, particularly surrounding the theme of black magic. It draws inspiration from Turkish folklore and films like "Dabbe" and "Sijjin." The story revolves around old, unsettling rituals involving curses and jinns. One image depicts blood in a sink, symbolizing supernatural and demonic activities. Another image shows a woman praying, marking the beginning of our story and the onset of the main supernatural events. There are also images featuring creepy satanic symbols on the walls, along with candles and elements of black magic rituals. Additionally, there’s an image showcasing purple undereye makeup, which represents how the woman performing black magic will appear in our film. The overall atmosphere is dark, unsettling, and uncomfortable—exactly the vibes we aim to evoke in our film opening, titled "SEÝTAN."

Script development meeting!

Image
Changing Of Script! We recently watched a movie, "Sijjin," that showcased incredible cinematography, and we got a lot of creative ideas from the movie. We held an online meeting and discussed the movie.  One change we proposed was to change a key scene. Instead of having a pot fall to the ground due to a cat's actions, we decided to include a more chilling moment: a hand gently patting the main girl on the shoulder before vanishing into thin air. This frightening scene would increase the creepiness and give a sense of spookiness, making the audience question what they just saw.  We learned that static shots and close-up framing are frequently used to increase the suspense and create a realistic vibe. With this in mind, we decided to incorporate these techniques into our own project. Now, after sharing these ideas, we are super excited to shoot our film.

Location risk analysis

Image
The location was perfect but risky.  We picked Mongi Wali Mansion as our location for filming, but we had a lot of concerns. The first problem was the 2-hour-long drive from our homes. If we spent a total of 4 hours travelling we won't have enough time for filming.   The area is known for its various cases of kidnapping, theft, and killing, which are very dangerous and concerning. Our entire script is about our evening shoot, and this issue created a big problem for us. We're now thinking about shifting our shooting hours to early morning before sunrise, but that also means that we have to leave our homes at midnight, and would also lead to tight shooting schedules. We also have another shooting location in our view, but if we choose that place, we'll have to make some changes to our script and budget. Everything will require a lot of effort, but we are willing to put all of our energy into this project.   Let's see where fate takes us and what works best...

EQUIPMENT~

Image
We have found the equipment!! One of our friends, who is also working in the media field had some equipment that we needed. We told him that we were having trouble finding good equipment that we needed for our shoot and he told us that he has everything we need. He has a studio light, a sturdy stand, a reliable tripod, and even a smoke machine. And he was ready to lend us all of these equipment for free. All are crucial elements that could elevate the quality of our project! We are absolutely ecstatic to hear this, as it will drastically cut down our budget for the shoot... We are super excited for filming and our final film opening scene!
